ARISTOS: THE MUSICAL sings the love story of doomed Ancient Greek heroes Achilles and Patroclus through a heartbreaking pop/soft rock score. A queer-centric Iliad adaptation written by Stanford University alumnus Muse Lee and current Stanford student Aaron Reed, Aristos is a plaintive romance, a retelling of a classic poem, and a paean to the twilight years of childhood.
The production is a unique and courageous offering to Bay Area theatre: a fast-rising new musical with an unlikely backstory as compelling as its subject matter. In under a year, the buzz generated by Aristos among theatre fans worldwide carried the musical from college project to student-produced reading to theatrical premiere.
The diverse cast and creative team–some of whom came to the project through the a local dance studio, some of whom were part of Aristos’ online fanbase, some of whom have been with the show since its inception–are involved in all aspects of Achilles and Patroclus’ story. Retaining the show’s roots in community and collaboration, Aristos is not only a production, but also a workshop in which youth actively participate in the development of a new musical.
Aristos is currently in the process of remotely recording a cast album with over 50 performers across the globe. Look for us on Spotify, Apple Music, and wherever you stream in Fall 2021!
